Preparing for the Release of GME’s First Comprehensive Quarterly Gambling Market Review

Our first quarterly gambling market review will focus on the State of Florida.  The report will include an updated summary of changes to Florida’s gaming landscape, an overview of all forms of gambling in the State, a review of legislative activity, and a data review of the south Florida pari-mutuel slots market, as well as a profile section covering both the publicly traded and privately held organizations with some stake in the market.

UPDATE April 2010

In our last GME research brief, we review a report released in February by the Massachusetts based anti-gambling group United to Stop Slots in Massachusetts (USS Mass).

The full USS Mass report was posted at Masslive.com on February 9, 2010 in an article by The Republican’s Dan Ring – “Massachusetts casino opponents and supporters duel in Boston”.  An abridged version containing the text of a PowerPoint presentation by USS Mass President Kathleen Conley Norbut can be found at the USS Mass website.

Our analysis of the document is performed with a focus on the accuracy of specific claims.  Advocacy groups on all sides of political debate, including USS Mass, provide a valuable benefit to the legislative process.  Although we raise debate surrounding some of the claims presented by the group, we believe that intense scrutiny of all proposals to change gambling law is essential and the analysis provided by USS Mass is an important starting point to what should prove to be a productive debate.
